ABOUT HUGO MARQUES
I consider myself a practical and creative individual. I’ve always been curious about technology and was ever keen to learn more and more about it.

Yes, the orwellian vectors we are all boarding in do concern me. I consider that technology is meant to solve problems and help mankind, but just like magic in a good old fashion fantasy story, it can also be employed in the most wicked ways to serve the warlock at the tower top.
What can I say…? I just work here. Maybe one day things will be different.

You can think of me as kind ‘a nerd, because... well, I really am one! A techie jack-of-all-trades, but master at some. When it comes to work, I try my best to deliver, committing to any goals I truly believe in. How else would I be able to excel and preform my best?

I’m capable of operating as a team player, having done so in the past with small and large crews. When required, I can also drive solo, performing support, installation, maintenance, and deployment tasks on my own.

Some of my hobbies and interests include:
Reading:
World News, History, Novels
Playing:
Board games, RPGs, amateur Chess (challenge me at lichess.org)
Watching:

Collecting:
TCGs, Comics
Listening:
Ambient, Trip-hop and Electronic music.

And, whenever possible, taking my bicycle for very long rides…

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND, EDUCATION AND TRAINING
My professional life started with web design, employing Flash.

Later I moved onto a larger developer company were I’ve handled hardware integration and proprietary software support for jewelry manufactures and resellers, along with day-to-day IT maintenance tasks.

Joining an integrator as product specialist in 2004 allowed me to be involved in a wide range of technological projects including real-time graphics, virtual sets, digital video, motion capture, and camera robotics.

Between 2009 and 2012 I have also served as a technical chief and technical director on two distinct Spanish television broadcasters.

Back in Portugal, after a personal journey through Europe, I’ve worked in support for a major video software house and as solutions architect for a main integrator in the broadcast market.

CODE

I’m not a hardcore programmer but I’ve experimented with many languages:
some common like JS or VBA, others obscure and proprietary. Some are still alive while others defunct, like AS. I’ve even dealt with high-end platforms that allow developing complex programs without typing a single line of code.

DATA

What would life be without zeros, ones and the ASCII character set?
Excel is my tool of choice when comes to processing data. Usually I prototype there before delving deep into code and the database connections.
Hey, if it works there, it will work anywhere!

GRAPHICS

Despite my techie tendencies, I find myself frequently putting my creativity to use, whether drawing a 2D layout, working on a logo, building some 3D model or sketching a technical diagram.

Design comes in many fashions...

CONTACT

Want to reach me? Sure thing.
I don't use any social networks, so this might actually be the only way to do it.
Unless of course, you dial my phone number, send me a letter or just a straight e-mail.
If you master such powers, telepathy is also an option.
